Context

HPE GreenLake Consumption Analytics helps organizations monitor and manage their consumption and usage of IT resources and services. The dashboard enables customers to gain insights into their usage patterns resource allocation and cost efficiency. My role involved improving the dashboard's user experience by incorporating insights gathered from previous rounds of usability testing and implementing features for chart customization.

Challenges

HPE, being a highly technical, developer-focused company, came with its own set of unique challenges. Diving into a project with limited domain knowledge could indeed be daunting, but adopting a "learn as I go" approach proved to be quite beneficial. Additionally, collaborating among research, development, and design teams to optimize solutions has been a valuable part of the process.

Objective

Users want to customize their dashboards and pages that include chart visualizations in Consumption Analytics.

Next Step

The design was approved by both the design system team and the consumption analytics team and sent to the research team for user testing. Afterward, the teams will decide on the most effective feature to implement on the consumption analytics dashboard.

OOPS!

Due to NDA, I can’t share specific details about my project until the feature launches publicly. Please contact me for questions and details!

Takeaways

Adhere to design system
This marks my first experience with a design system, and although there is an abundance of information to absorb, I have discovered its value in ensuring a cohesive user experience throughout the platform, fostering collaboration among designers, developers, and stakeholders, and bolstering scalability
Make strategic tradeoffs
By actively participating in UX critique sessions and engaging in stakeholder meetings, I have acquired the ability to make design decisions that carefully weigh factors such as developer workload, business requirements, and customer preferences.
Be bold and agile
Be bold in asking questions and embarking on wild explorations to the point of failure, but also be agile in adapting to feedback and iterating.
